Art Original Puerto Vallarta, Mexico “Lower Conchas Chinas”
An Architectural Whimsy Work from the Latin American Collection
My art original Puerto Vallarta, Mexico “Lower Conchas Chinas” is a 32×32″ original acrylic on canvas and is from the “Architectural Whimsy Collection”.
As most of you have visited my gallery in Puerto Vallarta, you will most likely recall many of this collection hanging either in print or originals. It is, by far, one of my most popular collections of my art journey.
This original painting happens to be the only available work left from the Latin American collection. I will only be doing one to two of these pieces each year, so I thought I would share it so that you might enjoy seeing it and give you a chance to purchase it before the season begins.
This collection began about 16 years ago when I was traveling in Europe. It was the quaint village of St. Paul de Vence that the Aha moment happened.
This charming medieval village has winding lanes and staircases that meander about, in a magical environment! I was walking down the staircase, looking ahead for different ideas to paint and I stopped in my tracks.
The buildings below felt animated, as the time had settled them into a slight lean. It felt as if they were communicating. Now granted, my mind has a tendency to wander in fantasy and magic. I imagined the buildings as being human, with the history and stories that lingered from hundreds of years of people living their lives generation after generation within the centuries old structures.
I thought to myself, wouldn’t this be an interesting approach to creating architecture. I did a couple of paintings that looked like, what the buildings made me feel. Immediately, they sold! I guess this is when you decide you are on to something big.
I have been creating this collection in Europe, Latin America and the United States and the works are even more fanciful than in the beginning. They sway and lean towards one another with delight. I love this collection, as I imagine that they will add “Colorful Magic” to anyones home or office!
Part of the process before beginning a piece, is to research more meaningful ideas around a subject. As for me, travel is one of my passions and a time and place to be thoughtful and grow new ideas. It is truly the most fertile period of each year for me.
Often we like to be reminded of those magical experiences we have had when we traveled to new and exotic places. This is my outward expression of my travels. I hope you find one that you would like to have as a permanent memory for your travels also.
