“Hanging In The Balance Collection”
I hope that you will stop for a moment and read these few words…
…“Woman’s Rights” are Human Rights…to make our own personal decisions.
This is my visceral response to women’s rights to make personal choices in all areas of their lives. The collection is a continuation of a life long interest in encouraging women to be all that they can be.
I come from a long lineage of women’s liberation, which I honor, but I also know has had it’s ups and downs. My personal stories are woven into the fabric of our history and now woven into my work.
The works I have been creating over the decades reflect my personal journey. The first, and wildly successful collection, I did in the 90’s, inspired by Clarissa Pinkola Estes book about women, “Women Who Run With The Wolves Collection” was extremely personal, and my ongoing How Does Your Garden Grow Collection, is a reminder in a positive and beautiful way that the balance of wisdom, power and femininity of women, is most amazing, in a divided culture that seems to have forgotten it.
My purpose with these collections is to make a statement through the work. It is an opportunity for you and I to have a civil conversation. If not you and I, then for you to contemplate on your own, the bending of your mind. A Chance to hear and to consider our personal beliefs and how they effect others.
I hope that each and every work I create now, has this balance, an energy where the masculine and the feminine stories are blended into each figurative painting created.
My personal journey is reflected in all the work I create, from motherhood, to Women’s Liberation, my Bitch Goddess phase, and now the newest part of my life the Wild Wise Woman. Thank god it has come to that.
It is about the friendships that we collect and struggles we endure along life’s journey and how we overcome and triumph. It is about the strength and wisdom of women as they age gracefully into their fullness.
They are paintings of women and men “Friends and Divas” with my respect and inspiration of the feminine principle. Thanks for taking the time to contemplate with me. Kathleen

A small note. In my last “Fresh Off The Easel” it was brought to my attention that I had mentioned I had been doing my Architectural Whimsy for 16 years which was incorrect. In fact this collection has been ongoing since my second visit to France in July of 2000. Time slips away without our realizing it. Shocking! Thank you Helena
