August 17, 2022Abstract Paintings and Spirituality
How your upbringing influences your creative process and the work you do. My abstract paintings and spirituality influence is just one example of this.
From the time I was born I was blessed with parents that had a strong understanding of metaphysics and raised me in this environment. Growing up in this environment, I was taken to Sunday school all through these formative years and taught, through this experience, a term called,
“Mind over Matter” or the difference between “Monkey Mind” and “Divine Mind”. I was taught and “learned” , then began to create a “spirituality and art” in my own life. First you learn to “Believe”, then learn to “understand it”, but until you find yourself living it and “being it” it is not clear.
I am an artist and express this philosophy in each and every one of my works of art, at least I always hope that this is the case. My true intentions are to express this in each stroke I create. My personal statement about my work is:
“Divine Insipiration is the source of my vision, my life’s work, and my greatest joy.
So…. with every stroke of paint my intentions “are” this statement. The finished painting is just a manifestation of the intention.
I have been an illustrator, creating paintings that are accessible to my collectors and viewers, from the human perspective, hoping that they catch a glimpse of the underlying purpose, this “Divine Vibration”, I am speaking of, in these illustrative canvases.
Over the past year, during the pandemic, I have been fortunate enough to have the time and space to explore my approach to the canvas. I allowed myself to step up to the canvas without any preconceived ideas, just create brushstrokes of color and make marks ecstatically, with abandon, never being in my “Monkey Mind” . I have created non objective canvases for over a year and a half and now am reintegrating a touch of the human or “illustrative” if you will, back into the paintings.
It occurred to me, in a brief moment of divine connection, that this is my transition into a deeper level of “Understanding” in my own work and a gift to share with others in a much sweeter vibrational expression.
It is important for myself as an artist to explore and grow in my visual expressions, but more importantly, I understand now that, not only am I growing as an artist, but expressing my statement of purpose in a new level of vibration.
It is such a satisfying process and epiphany for myself, and hopefully for my collectors, to know that the work they have collected has a deeper cut of understanding on my part and that the purpose is reaching out into the world fhttps://kathleencarrillogalleries.com/or others to experience, maybe without their knowledge, but just integrating it into their “being”.
