December 26, 2025Winter Solstice: The Shortest Day of the Year and the Magic of Nature
I often consider myself pagan—not in the way some people might imagine, but in the simplest and most heartfelt sense. For me, nature is my church. The earth, the ocean, the wind, and the changing seasons are sacred teachers, always offering wisdom if we slow down enough to listen.
Today is one of those deeply meaningful days that Indigenous cultures around the world have honored for centuries: the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year. It is a time of reflection, reverence, and renewal—a celebration of nature’s quiet power and the promise of returning light.
What could be more inspiring than walking along the beach on a day like this? Especially when you live south of the border, here in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico—a place I now call home. I feel immense gratitude to celebrate such a sacred moment surrounded by natural beauty, a full heart, and the love of my life.
Why Nature Awakens Creativity
People often ask why the love of nature inspires my work so deeply. The answer reveals itself every time I walk along the shore.
When your feet touch the sand and the rhythm of the waves surrounds you, something shifts. Your body wakes up. Your breath deepens. Your mind opens. I didn’t fully understand this until I began paying close attention—but once you do, it’s impossible to ignore.
After a brisk walk on the beach, my mind fills with creative ideas. I feel energized, clear, and eager to return to the studio. Living here allows me the rare gift of walking downstairs and strolling a full mile along the ocean right outside my home. These moments often become the foundation for my paintings, especially my Ocean Magic collection, which is inspired directly by these daily encounters with the sea.
Memories from childhood and teenage years spent near the water come rushing back—always joyful, always comforting. The ocean holds our stories.
Feng Shui, the Elements, and Healing Energy
From a Feng Shui perspective, the beach is a perfect harmony of elements:
Earth, water, wind, wood, and fire all exist together in balance.
The air itself feels healing. Many believe the negative ions present near the ocean promote well-being, elevate mood, and restore energy—especially in contrast to the overstimulation of modern indoor life. Whether science or spirit, the effect is undeniable.
Every visit to the shore leaves a lasting imprint on my soul.
Honoring the Winter Solstice
This morning, on the Winter Solstice, we took our walk as if we had never taken one before. We felt like children—filled with joy, gratitude, and wonder.
It’s a reminder that you don’t need an ocean to connect with nature. A lake, a river, or even a neighborhood pool can offer reflection and renewal. Nature meets us wherever we are—if we’re willing to show up.
From Nature to Canvas

tropical paintings
Many of my paintings begin long before I ever step into the studio. They are born during these quiet walks—feet in the sand, salt air on my skin, and the steady rhythm of the ocean guiding my thoughts.
Explore my Ocean Magic Collection! It is a visual expression of these moments. Each piece is inspired by the energy of the sea, the movement of water, and the emotional memories that surface when we slow down and reconnect with nature. These works are created with the intention of bringing calm, balance, and creative flow into a space—whether it’s a home, office, or sacred corner of reflection.
